5 – 6 Day Highland, Speyside and Islay Whisky Tour from Edinburgh

Discover the wonderful whiskies of the Highlands, Speyside and the Isle of Islay with a five (or six) day tour from Edinburgh through the breath-taking scenery of the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Islay.

Day 1 - Departing from Edinburgh we travel north over the Firth of Forth towards the Central Highlands. Arriving at the Cairngorms National Park in the late-morning we visit Dalwhinnie Distillery for a tour and tastings. The afternoon takes us on short detour east to the Glenlivet Distillery for a tour and tastings before we make our way to Inverness for our overnight stop.

Day 2 - Departing from Inverness, we visit to Benromach Distillery which has just three distillers handcrafting their single malt whisky. After a distillery tour and tastings we visit Glenfiddich Distillery where you enjoy a light lunch at the distillery cafe including tastings from their Malt Bar. The mid-afternoon is reserved for a distillery tour and tastings at the famous Macallan Distillery before we return to Inverness for our overnight stop.

Day 3 - Departing from Inverness we follow the ancient geological fault line that cuts through the Highlands - the Great Glen - towards Fort William, with scenic stops on the way. After a refreshement break at Fort William we continue south to Oban where we visit the famous Oban Distillery. The late afternoon takes us south through Kilmartin Glen towards Kennacraig where we board the evening ferry for a 2¼ hour sailing across to the Isle of Islay and the first of our two overnight stays on the island.

Day 4 - We have one full day on the Isle of Islay and the itinerary can be adapted around your tastes and personal choices. Generally we aim to enjoy two standard distillery whisky tours along with a third distillery for tastings. Alternatively, you may wish to take an extended distillery tour of your favourite whisky - just let us know and we can design a specific itinerary to suit.

Choose from Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain and Caol Ila.

Day 5 - We leave the Isle of Islay on the morning sailing back to the mainland. It is then a scenic drive north towards Inverary where after a lunch break we visit the Loch Fyne Whisky Shop (home to a great selection of whiskies). The late afternoon is a beautiful journey by the Trossachs, through Callander and on towards Edinburgh where we end our five day whisky adventure.

Tour option - Add an extra day on the Isle of Islay
Should you wish more time to explore the Isle of Islay we can add an additional day to the tour to include more distillery visits along with some of the fantastic scenery and history on the island. With this option there would be an additional overnight stay on the Isle of Islay. Tour option surcharge – £500 per tour.

Tours are exclusively for your private group only (up to 3 persons) and prices are per tour. We only offer private tours and do not combine individuals or separate groups - if your group size is less than 3 the advertised tour price still applies. Accommodation Options
We recommend that you book accommodation in Inverness (Day 1 and 2) and Isle of Islay (Day 3 and 4) to make the most of your trip. For the 6 Day tour an additional night's accommodation will be required on the Isle of Islay. Whilst we do not book accommodation for you we are happy to help with advice on where to stay and eat. The tour quote will include a list of accommodation recommendations and suggestions for overnight locations.

Tour Notes
We have some flexibility with the itinerary over the five (or six) days and it can be adapted (if possible) to suit specific requests regarding distilleries or historical attractions. Distilleries have a silent season when there is no whisky production for a number of weeks (generally during the summer months). Distillery tours still operate but without production in the background. Advance payment is required for most distillery tour fees. Please note that this tour is not suitable for children (under 18s).

Ferry Sailings
Ferry sailings are generally reliable in the summer months, but delays can occasionally occur. While we cannot be responsible for any extra accommodation, food or other costs that clients may incur due to ferry delays and cancellations, we will make every effort to adapt the tour to minimise disruption. Please note that no refunds will be given for tour and itinerary changes due to ferry changes and cancellations.

Off Season Touring
Generally we only offer this tour between May and September when ferry sailings are least likely to be disrupted by weather. However, should you be interested in travel from October to April and have a flexible schedule that can adapt to possible ferry delays or cancellations and itinerary changes then please contact us and we can discuss tour options.
