3 Day Highlands Tour
Three days of beautiful Lochs, stunning Glens, breath-taking Mountains and historic Castles!
Day 1 - Departing from Edinburgh we travel north over the Firth of Forth towards the Central Highlands. We explore the beautiful village of Dunkeld and its historic ruined cathedral before our drive northwards takes us to the Cairngorms National Park. Arriving near Inverness by the mid-afternoon we visit Culloden Battlefield followed by the Bronze Age Clava Cairns and Standing Stones before our overnight stop.
Day 2 - Departing from Inverness we journey along the banks of Loch Ness to explore the medieval ruins of Urquhart Castle, once one of Scotland's largest castles. We then tour west through Glen Shiel and past the Five Sisters of Kintail mountain range towards the iconic Eilean Donan Castle. The late afternoon takes us through Glengarry to join the Great Glen - the ancient geological fault line that cuts through the Highlands - on our way to Fort William for our overnight stop.
Day 3 - Departing from Fort William we travel south to explore the dramatic scenery (and dark history) of Glencoe. After a short detour down the breath-taking Glen Etive, the afternoon takes us through the haunting landscape of Rannoch Moor. A beautiful journey by the Trossachs leads us to our final stop at the imposing Stirling Castle where we take time to explore its fascinating history before our return to Edinburgh.
Tours are exclusively for your private group only (up to 3 persons) and prices are per tour. We only offer private tours and do not combine individuals or separate groups - if your group size is less than 3 the advertised tour price still applies. Prices include all taxes and a driver/guide (John Alasdair Macdonald) but exclude your accommodation costs, entrance fees and meals.
We recommend that you book accommodation in Inverness (Day 1) and Fort Willam (Day 2) to make the most of your trip. Whilst we do not book accommodation for you we are happy to help with advice on where to stay and eat. The tour quote will include a list of accommodation recommendations and suggestions for overnight locations.
The tour itinerary is based on experience, previous clients feedback and timings. However, there is a little flexibility with the itinerary over the three days and the tour itinerary can be adapted (in advance) to suit specific requests if possible. Please let us know any requests through the 'Extra Information' section when completing a Tour Enquiry Form or email directly to firstname.lastname@example.org.
* Off Season Touring
The Highlands are renowned for changeable weather, even over the summer months. However, from October to March, poor weather conditions are more common and daylight hours are reduced (particularly from November to February). For tours during these months, we may offer a modified itinerary (as some attractions close or have reduced opening hours over the winter months) with slightly shorter touring days. The itinerary may be changed at short notice to adapt to weather conditions, and on very rare occasions tours may be cancelled due to severe weather. For a detailed itinerary please complete a Tour Enquiry Form including your travel dates.
