3 Day Isle of Mull, Iona and Highland Glens Tour

3 Day Isle of Mull, Iona and Highland Glens Tour

A stunning 3 Day Highland and Hebridean adventure down the ancient Highland fault line - the Great Glen - and across to the beautiful Hebridean Islands of Mull and Iona.

Day 1 begins at Inverness where we follow the Great Glen to Spean Bridge for spectacular views of the peaks of Nevis range. Leaving the Glen, we journey along the 'Road to the Isles' - a stunning drive through some of the Highlands most beautiful scenery. On the way we explore the Jacobite story and ‘Bonnie Prince Charlie’ with a visit to the Glenfinnan Jacobite Monument situated at the mouth of Glen Shiel. We then head south into the remote lands of Moidart and the wonderful ruins of the fourteenth-century Castle Tioram, located on a tidal island which is possible to walk around the island at low tide. The late afternoon takes us west into the wild beauty of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula and a 30 minute ferry across the Sound of Mull to Tobermory for our overnight stop.

Day 2 begins from Tobermory as we take a scenic two hour drive through the Isle of Mull to catch the ferry (15 minutes - pedestrian only) across to the beautiful Isle of Iona. We have over three hours on Iona where you can explore Iona Abbey, the museum and the ancient churchyard, along with time to enjoy the stunning scenery and coastline of this wonderful Hebridean island before we return on the afternoon ferry across to the Isle of Mull and back to Tobermory for our overnight stay.

After exploring this wonderfully restored thirteenth century Herbidean castle we take a short ferry across the Sound of Mull to Lochaline and then continue on towards Fort William. Our return drive north-east along the Great Glen to Inverness includes a visit to the medieval ruins of Inverlochy Castle along with the Caledonian Canal at Fort Augustus.

Accommodation options
We recommend that you book accommodation in Tobermory (Day 1 and 2) to make the most of your trip. Whilst we do not book accommodation for you we are happy to help with advice on where to stay and eat in Tobermory.

Ferry Sailings
Ferry sailings are generally very reliable in the summer months, but delays can very occasionally occur. While we cannot be responsible for any extra accommodation, food or other costs that clients may incur due to ferry delays and cancellations, we will make every effort to adapt the tour to minimise disruption. Please note that no refunds will be given for tour and itinerary changes due to ferry changes and cancellations. To date all our tours have crossed over and returned without any significant delays.

Tours to Mull and Iona from October to April
Generally we only offer tours to Mull and Iona between May and September when ferry sailings are least likely to be disrupted by weather. However, should you be interested in this tour for travel between October and April and have a flexible schedule that can adapt to possible ferry delays or cancellations then please contact us and we can discuss tour options. Please note that during the winter months (November to March) there are reduced daylight hours (7-8 hours) and ferry cancellations due to bad weather are more common.

2019 Booking Update
Please note that we are now taking bookings for 2019. As dates for multi day tours tend to book up quite far in advance, for the widest choice of available tour dates (and accommodation options) we recommend that you book as early as possible.
