Highland DiscoveryTour inc. Speyside Whisky Distillery
Discover a flavour of the Scottish Highlands with a great tour of Highland scenery and ancient history that includes Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle, Culloden Battlefield, Clava Cairns and finish with a ‘dram’ of Scotch Malt Whisky!
Our tour begins at Inverness where we journey along the banks of Loch Ness before arriving at the medieval ruins of Urquhart Castle. Here you have time to explore the castle, discover its links with so many of the important events in the history of the Highlands, and take advantage of its fantastic viewpoints looking out across Loch Ness.
Arriving at Culloden Battlefield we explore the bloody history surrounding Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobites. The excellent interactive visitors centre sets the scene of this decisive battle along with the Jacobite campaign before you embark on a poignant walk through the Culloden field. Only a short distance from Culloden are the Bronze Age burial cairns of Clava. These stone cairns are around 4000 years old and give us a fascinating glimpse of the very ancient past of the Highlands.
Next stop is a visit to Benromach, the smallest working whisky distillery in Speyside, situated in the scenic town of Forres. At Benromach Distillery their small group of guides will make you feel like part of the family as you take a 1 hour tour to discover the secrets behind one of Scotland’s best export and finish the tour off with a dram or two.
Our return journey to Inverness includes a short stop at the Pictish Sueno’s stone. This decorated standing stone is around 1200 years old and is a stunning example of the skills of the ancient people of this region - the Picts.
