4 Day Islay and West Highlands Whisky Tour

4 Day Islay and West Highlands Whisky Tour

4 Day Islay and West Highlands Whisky Tour

Discover the wonderful whiskies of the Isle of Islay with a four day tour from Inverness that allows for two full days to explore up to six of the malt whisky distilleries on Islay.

Day 1 - Our four day Islay and West Highlands whisky tour begins at Inverness where we follow the ancient geological fault line that cuts through the Highlands - the Great Glen - towards Fort William, with scenic stops at Loch Ness and Fort Augustus on the way. After a refreshement break at Fort William we continue south to Oban where we visit the famous Oban distillery. The late afternoon takes us south through Kilmartin Glen towards Kennacraig where we board the evening ferry for a 2¼ hour sailing across to the Isle of Islay and the first of our three overnight stays on the island.

Day 2 and 3 - We have two full days on Islay and the itinerary can be adapted around your tastes and personal choices. Generally we aim to enjoy two standard distillery whisky tours each day and if possible add in a third distllery for tastings. Alternatively, you may wish to take an extended distillery tour of your favourite whisky - just let us know and we can design a specific itinerary to suit.

Choose from Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain and Caol Ila (my favourite).

Day 4 - We leave the Isle of Islay on the morning sailing back to the mainland. It is then a scenic drive north to Oban where we enjoy a late lunch. The afternoon takes us through Fort William and along the Great Glen back towards Inverness. Throughout our return drive we break the journey with a number of scenic viewpoint stops including Spean Bridge and Inverlochy Castle.

Tour Notes
We have some flexibility with the itinerary over the four days and it can be adapted (if possible) to suit specific requests regarding distilleries or historical attractions.

Distilleries have a silent season when there is no whisky production for a number of weeks (generally during the summer months). Distillery tours still operate but without production in the background.

Advance payment is required for most distillery tour fees.

Please note that this tour is not suitable for children (under 18s).

Tours are exclusively for your private group only (up to 3 persons) and prices are per tour. Accommodation options
We recommend that you book accommodation on the Isle of Islay (Day 1, 2 and 3). Whilst we do not book accommodation for you we are happy to help with advice on where to stay and eat on Islay.

Islay is extremely popular and much of the accommodation (which can be limited) sells out far in advance - we would recommend at a minimum you book this at least six month before. We accept bookings up to two years in advance for this tour.

Ferry Sailings
Ferry sailings are generally very reliable in the summer months, but delays can very occasionally occur. While we cannot be responsible for any extra accommodation, food or other costs that clients may incur due to ferry delays and cancellations, we will make every effort to adapt the tour to minimise disruption. Please note that no refunds will be given for tour and itinerary changes due to ferry changes and cancellations. To date all our tours have crossed over and returned without any significant delays.
