Discover the medieval heritage of Urquhart Castle, the bloody history of Culloden
Battlefield and finish the day tour having completed a circular tour around one of
the most stunning stretches of water in the Highlands -
Our tour begins at Inverness where we take a short drive to Culloden Battlefield to explore the bloody history surrounding Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobite supporters.
Only a short distance from Culloden are the Bronze Age burial cairns of Clava. These stone cairns are around 4000 years old and give us a fascinating glimpse of the very ancient past of the Highlands.
Leaving the Clava Cairns we journey towards the village of Dores where we walk along the pebble beach at the top of Loch Ness. Next stop is the fantastic Falls of Foyers before we continue towards the Monadhliath Mountains (Grey Mountains) for a spectacular view back towards Inverness.
Next stop is the village of Fort Augustus at the southern end of Loch Ness. Here
you will have time to explore this picturesque village along with its great Locks
-
Our return journey sees us heading towards the ruins of Urquhart Castle. Here you have time to explore the castle, discover its links with so many of the important events in the history of the Highlands, and take advantage of its fantastic viewpoints looking out across Loch Ness. After the castle we visit the picturesque village of Drumnadrochit for a short stop before our return back to Inverness.
Please note that the walk to the Falls of Foyers (optional) is along a rough track with some steep sections so decent footwear is recommended. We can supply walking poles for extra support if required.
