Isle of Skye Jacobite Tour including Eilean Donan Castle
and Glenfinnan ‘Harry Potter’ Viaduct
A great One Day Tour from Inverness that gives you a real flavour of the Highlands.
The tour includes the West Highlands, Southern Skye and a fantastic ferry crossing
‘over the sea from Skye’.
Clans, castles, rebellions and ‘Bonnie’ Princes provide a brilliant history of the
Highlands while the ‘Road to the Isles’, Southern Skye and the Sound of Sleat provide
the breath-
The Jacobite tour begins at Inverness where we follow the banks of Loch Ness down past Urquhart Castle. After a stop for photos we head along through Glen Moriston on the way to Glen Shiel and the five sisters of Kintail mountain range. The magnificent Loch Duich awaits us at the foot of the hills where we see the stunning Eilean Donan Castle in the distance. We take time to discover Eilean Donan’s ancient and historic past and enjoy a coffee stop before we head out over the bridge to the Isle of Skye.

With nearly three hours in Skye we make our way down the Sleat peninsula in southern
Skye towards the Clan Donald Centre -
Next stop is a great ferry journey across the Sound of Sleat to Mallaig on a short 40 minute ferry crossing. Leaving Mallaig we head for Glenfinnan where we stop to admire the stunning monument commemorating the Jacobites and Bonnie Prince Charlie and the raising of the standard in 1745. Glenfinnan also has a magnificent Victorian viaduct now made even more famous after being used in the Harry Potter movie. If you don’t mind getting your shoes a bit muddy I can promise you a great view!
After a short late afternoon coffee stop at Fort William on the shores of Loch Linnhe we return to Inverness along the Great Glen. Along the way we stop at Fort Augustus to view the locks and the Caledonian Canal at Loch Ness.
Ferry sailings are weather permitting but are generally very reliable in the summer months. Please note that we may have to take alternative routes in the event of ferry cancellations or changes in ferry times. We generally recommend this tour between March and September to make the most of the daylight hours.
