Cairgorm Mountain RailwayThe Cairngorms National Park is the largest national park in the United Kingdom and an area of immense natural beauty. It ticks all the boxes (mountains, lochs, glens, moors covered in heather, rivers and forests. It is also home to five of Scotland’s six largest mountains.

Our tour begins with a short drive from Inverness to Aviemore, one of the main towns in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park

Next stop is Loch Morlich - one of the most beautiful little lochs in the region - before we head up to the Cairmgorm Mountain Railway.

You can take the funicular railway up to near the summit of Cairn Gorm. The highest railway journey in the UK takes around 8 mins to complete the 2kms from the base station at 635m to the ptarmigan station at over 1097m. Here you can marvel at the stunning views back down toward Loch Morlich, while enjoying a coffee at the ptarmigan restaurant.

It’s then on to Glenlivet Whisky Distillery, where you can take a free guided tour and a free dram of The Glenlivet 12, 18 years old.

Our return to Inverness includes a stop at the scenic Victorian spa village of Grantown on Spey.
